Soy Fiber

A Fiber rich in cellulose

Definition

The soybean (scientific name: Glycine Max) is a plant belonging to the legume family that is widely used for feeding humans and farm animals. Soy provides fiber, consisting of 4 other fractions (cellulose, hemicellulose, lignin and pectin).

Biological Role

The fiber, even though it has no energy value for the carnivores, may fall in their diet in order to:

promote intestinal transit
reduce food absorption (weight reduction)
alleviate the sense of hunger (feeling of fullness)

Clinical Applications

The characteristics of soy fiber, particularly rich in cellulose (3-4 times higher than that of wheat) and free from phytates, allow to use it:

in all forms of intestinal constipation (up to stypsis), both by dietary origin and by inadequate physical activity.
in weight reduction programs due to overweight, without changing the daily diet, except for the calories intake.
