Broad spectrum antiseptic

Definition

The Piroctone Olamine, whose commercial name is Octopirox, represents a true innovation in the veterinary field and, thanks to its particular affinity for the skin tissue and its “annexes”, plays an important local antiseptic action, at lower concentrations.

Biological Role

The Piroctone Olamine has broad-spectrum antibacterial activity that is exerted on:

Gram positive bacteria:

Staphilococcus aureus
Micorcoccus luteus
Streptococcus pyogenes
Bact. Subtilis

Fungi:

Microsporum canis
Trichophyton var. species
Candida albicans
Aspergillus niger
Malassezia species

Gram negative bacteria:

Escherichia Coli
Salmonella var. species
Proteus var. species Klebsiella var. species
Enterobacter var. species
Shigella flexneri
Pseudomonas aeruginosa
Haemophilus influenzae

Pasteurella multocida

Clinical Applications

The action of Piroctone Olamine, with great affinity for keratin-rich tissues such as the skin and the hair, complete the anti-inflammatory action of other active ingredients.

In fact, by bringing under control the bacterial and/or fungal infection, present on the body surface, eliminates the pathogenic action of these microorganisms, which act as a trigger or as a complication, perpetuate the vicious circle of some skin diseases, as in the case of atopic dermatitis, or contact dermatitis.
